Libertarians Demand Open Meetings for Working Taxpayers
Call to Move County Meetings to Evening
Boca Raton, FL – The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County (LPPBC) demands the Palm Beach County Commission provide reasonable opportunities for the general public to attend its public workshops. The first public workshop regarding the 2010 county budget is set for Monday, June 8, 2009 from 9:30AM-5PM. During these hours, most of the county’s working citizens will be unable to leave their jobs to attend and comment on the budget. Currently, the only evening comments on the budget happen in September, just prior to the budget being approved. By this time, the budget is in final form and changes are rarely made.
LPPBC chairman, Karl Dickey commented today, “This is akin to taxation without representation. By the time the working person has a chance to comment to the Commissioners, the budget has been set. It’s too late. The Commission needs to keep all taxpayers, especially the common working person, informed and provide a reasonable opportunity for them to have an active role in the budget process. If the Commission chooses to continue this practice, it will send a clear message to the hard working voters of this county that it doesn’t care to hear from them; until re-election. Therefore, we demand the Commission move all future public workshops to evening hours immediately.”
The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County is the third largest political party in Palm Beach County and the only political party promoting personal freedom and smaller government. ###
