The first debate for Virginia’s U.S. Senate candidates is on July 26, but the establishment is already scheming to make sure voters won’t hear from all the candidates on the ballot.
Democrat Mark Warner and Republican Ed Gillespie don’t want a real debate, and that’s exactly what they would get if Libertarian Robert Sarvis joined them on the stage.
“Allowing [Sarvis] in the debates…would force his opponents to grapple with him and his viewpoints,” wrote one columnist in the Virginian-Pilot. “That would be a victory for the voters.”
